On 10th June 2018, CASA – 1000 Project of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (Afghanistan Portion) held a stakeholder consultation workshop in the conference hall of DABS, Chaman Hozouri aimed at project introduction and future plans of the involved stakeholders.
In his opening speech H.E. Eng. Amanullah Ghalib, Chief Executive Officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat spoke on the importance, economic benefits and contribution of CASA-1000 in maintaining security.
Pointing out to the objectives of CASA-1000 he further added, “Past experiences have shown that organizing of stakeholders’ consultation workshop is of great importance prior to the implementation of national and regional projects such as CASA-1000. Because, the main objective of today’s stakeholder consultation workshop is to help create coordination between the involved stakeholders and paves the ground for the participants to share the long-term plans of their respected entities with each other. At the same time, such workshops will prevent problems in the future.”
Then, National Team Leader for CASA-1000 Transmission Line in Afghanistan Mr. Shafiqullah Shahrani presented a presentation containing comprehensive information regarding CASA-1000 and its benefits for Afghanistan. Likewise, he responded in detail the questions raised by the participants.
Similarly, representatives of the contracted company for conducting Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) presented two presentations about the objectives of undertaking Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of CASA 1000 Project and sharing Terms of Reference of ESIA. At the same time during Q&A session they urged the participants to share their view-points in order to further enrich the ESIA for CASA-1000.
Besides discussing the importance of CASA-1000 and addressing problems and challenges, the stakeholders participated in the workshop also shed light on their future plans and asked CASA team to provide information regarding the final route for this project.
It is to be noted that the stakeholder consultation workshop was attended by representatives of the related ministries, independent directorates, ADB, USAID, contractors and CASA 1000 team.
Under the auspices of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (Afghanistan Portion) the Central Asia-South Asia power project, commonly known by the acronym CASA-1000, is a regional project that will allow for the export of 1300 MW surplus hydroelectricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan through Afghanistan.
